The “Pratt Falls” Geniuses Do an Interview with Michael Fairman

Ellen and Portia, as they like to refer to themselves as, recently did an interview with Michael Fairman at — Michael

Michael also agreed to take part in their virtual world in the interview:

Exclusive Interview – The Creative Brains Behind “Pratt Falls”

Here it is, one of the first exclusive interviews with the two marvelous and creative brains behind “Pratt Falls” the recent overnight Internet sensation. If you haven’t heard of “Pratt Falls” yet, then you’ve probably been living under a rock somewhere or have the wrong Google Alerts set. Or maybe you just haven’t been checking the soap message boards and/or blogs regularly.

A little background first. o.O and overthemooo are two members of the Bianca & Reese Forum who put their creative minds together one evening last week after reading the comments that All My Children Head Writer had made regarding why the Bianca & Reese storyline didn’t work out the way he wanted it to. According to Mr. Pratt, his reasoning was based on the departure of Eden Riegel, not knowing how long her contract was when he initially penned it and in turn, it caused much fan outrage across the message boards and blogs.

Instead of writing scathing letters to the higher powers at ABC and All My Children, o.O and overthemooo decided to put their angry energy into an animated cartoon, portraying secret meetings between Charles Pratt Jr. and Executive Producer of AMC, Julie Carruthers. Little did they know, their YouTube creation, “Pratt Falls” would sweep across the soap community on the Internet.

o.O and overthemooo were gracious enough to answer a few questions and give us some insight to the creation of “Pratt Falls.”

SS&D: What was the inspiration behind “Pratt Falls”?

o.O: Moral outrage, righteous indignation and, revenge.

overthemooo: After reading Pratt’s statements about Eden Riegel’s involvement in the Bianca & Reese storyline, I knew there was only one thing to do. Eden Riegel’s reign of terror had to be stopped. But seriously, his comments seemed so preposterous and offensive that I was moved to post a ten line mock conversation between Pratt and JHC. It was just a joke and it really wrote itself (I mean, come on! Blame Eden Riegel? Is that the best they could come up with?).

SS&D: Do you consider it as some sort of therapy or a way to respond to Charles Pratt’s comments about the his penning of the Bianca & Reese story?

o.O: I don’t consider it therapy, though I’m beginning to think that I might need therapy.

overthemooo: No. This is revenge. Pure and simple. Hell hath no fury like a soap fan scorned. I needed therapy after being forced to watch Greenlee eat crème fresh off Ryan’s face. And then again when Ryan and Kendall had post-mortuary grief sex.

SS&D: Where does all this creative genius come from?

o.O: From a shrine that was erected in my bathroom closet that I built to worship Joss Whedon. It’s finally producing results for me.

overthemooo: The Hammer of Thor and chocolate chips. Not necessarily in that order.

SS&D: Pratt Falls became an Internet sensation very quickly. Do you find this to be overwhelming for either of you?

o.O: I find getting out of bed every morning to be overwhelming for me.

overthemooo: Let me put this in perspective. When o.O initially emailed me, I didn’t give it a second thought. I knew that she made fabulous music videos (and that Eden Riegel had seen these videos), so I assumed that the animation and script work would just be something funny and well put together. Next thing we know, it’s everywhere. So, yes, it is overwhelming in the best possible way.

SS&D: How are you handling all this fame?

o.O: I am a little bit ashamed to admit that it has gone to my animated head, which as you may have noticed, is disproportionately large.

overthemooo: I have repeatedly sent demands to ABC studios. I want free t-shirts, a helicopter and a pair of scrubs from Grey’s Anatomy. So far, they haven’t responded to my requests.

(FYI – According to their animated Q & A episodes, o.O is the dark haired one (Portia) and overthemooo is the blonde/Ellen.)

SS&D: Did you have any expectations for this Internet gem? Did you ever imagine it going viral as quickly as it did?

o.O: I had no expectations whatsoever. I did not imagine that it would go viral, nor did I think anyone outside of the Bianca & Reese forum would give a rat’s ass about our little parody.

overthemooo: I expected that people might laugh. I had no idea that it would explode in the way it did. But obviously people are very upset about Eden Riegel’s involvement in destroying Pratt’s two-year storyline for Bianca and Reese.

SS&D: How many more episodes do you have planned?

o.O: Nothing is planned. We have never had a plan. I see no reason to start planning now. As long as we’re having fun and coming up with silly things to say, we’ll keep it going. But to imply that we ever consciously thought this through would be a lie. A damned lie.

overthemooo: In the words of Indiana Jones, we’re just making this up as we go along. Usually I’ll send o.O something silly at around 1AM and she polishes, adds brilliance, animates and uploads. We strike when its least expected. Like the icy glare of a scorned Bianca Montgomery.

SS&D: There is a catchy quote at the end of you video where you answer questions from your fans, “A fan without hope is a fan without fear.” Who came up with it and what is your take on the meaning behind it?

o.O: I ripped that line from a comic book — don’t remember which one. The original line is “A man without hope is a man without fear.” It struck me as so true, and as good an explanation as any as to why we would go to such lengths to make fun of TPTB at AMC. Once Pratt & JHC successfully destroyed our belief that they cared even remotely about the characters on their own show, or had any respect for the actors that portray those characters — well, I became fearless. What did we have to lose? Eden Riegel & Tamara Braun have left the show, is life worth living anymore? (Please reference above comment about needing therapy.)

overthemooo: That was all o.O. And as a comic book fan, I love it! Either that or I’ve been reading too much Watchmen and now see the world as an apocalyptical playground (comic book nerds do, in fact, rule the world). But, I digress. I think, in this day and age when soaps are being cancelled, writers and producers have to be very careful. The fans equal viewers, and without viewers, there are no ratings. Without ratings, there are no soaps. I’m not saying that writers and producers need to constantly heed to the sway of fan opinion. But we’re not stupid, nor are we blind (watch out for those glass decanters! They’ll get you). We’re armed with laptops and you tube so beware. But if this all blows up in our face and o.O and I suddenly disappear, I advise you to blame Eden Riegel.

SS&D: Thanks ladies. Looking forward to the next episode.

Week 2 of “Defeat Prop 8” Auction kicks off

With week one having concluded late last night, the “Defeat Prop 8” auction, an effort put together by a group of AMC’s Bianca & Reese fans have now unveiled the auction items for Week 2. The first week garnered great success, raising a large amount of money by auctioning off autographed photos of Eden Riegel and Tamara Braun.

As posted at the Defeat Prop 8 blog, the items for the second round have now been posted and word is, there is still one more big item to come.

Stay tuned for more…

Auction items can be viewed here: Week 2

Pratt Falls – Episode 2

And the underground meetings continue…

Episode 2: “I shall break up Zach and Kendall…”

“Chuck are you on crack?” *laugh*

And now for something different… Pratt Falls

This hilarious video was passed onto me from a poster at the Bianca & Reese message board. It’s completely based on a ficlet written by another poster (in response to Pratt’s comments from the TV Guide interview earlier this week) and she felt compelled to turn it into a video.

Episode One: Dealing with the exit… we need a plan!
A high level, top-secret discussion being held inside the underground offices of All My Children at ABC studios in NY.

Possible Episode 2 to follow, dealing with the Zendall/Rendall mess…

Eden Riegel Returns to All My Children on April 24

Several sites and publications are now reporting that Eden Riegel will be making the scheduled short-term return as Bianca Montgomery to All My Children beginning on April 24th. It’s been said that the appearance will last only 2 episodes (whew!) and that Bianca will be leaving the show with Tamara Braun’s Reese Williams. Eden stated in an earlier interview with Soap Opera Digest that “It’s going to end well for Reese and Bianca. Their love is real. I have hope.”

Um… okay… (I think Eden is one of a very few who feel that way…)

More recently, Tamara Braun stated in an interview that she “…was told* it would be a happy ending.”

I’ll be interested to see exactly what Charles Pratt and Brian Frons mean by “happy ending”. It’s already been apparent that re-writes have taken place with viewer uproar over the destruction of more than one character in this storyline, from Bianca and Reese to Kendall and Zach, including removing a second kiss between Reese and Zach, but pressing forward with the idiocy of having Kendall sleep with Ryan. And I’m not really clear on how a 2-episode appearance by Bianca can result in blissful happy ever after with a woman she hasn’t seen in a couple of months, who’s been supposedly “fighting for her” by living in ANOTHER COUNTRY. But we’ve all been witness to Charles Pratt’s sloppy, slapdash writing style with story conclusions occuring mere minutes after first appearing, so who’s to say what will happen? (I mean, I have my dreams for the ending of this storyline, but that’s another blog all together…)

I’ll be even more interested to be able to watch All My Children again, once this once-promising storyline is over and the principals have headed back to France.  Pratt had the chance to tell an incredible story here about same sex marriage and family. Instead, he chose to bugger it up by inserting a man into Bianca and Reese’s orbit, not only as the absurdly written “father” of their child, but as a ROMANTIC DISTRACTION for Reese, the newly minted lesbian. It became less about same-sex relationships and more about Pratt and Frons getting their jollies by watching two women making out before teasing at the possibility of some hetero action next.

I look forward to seeing Eden Riegel on my television again. There is that, at least.

-I make no apologies for my statements, but just to make clear, I am an Eden Riegel fan. I feel Eden was taken advantage of by TIIC at AMC because of her loyalty to the character of Bianca Montgomery and to her fans. This should have been Bianca’s story with Eden as it’s centerpiece, not the morass of ridiculous that it became… but that’s simply my opinion-

*emphasis added by me.

The Wedding of the Century…

(disclaimer – the contents of this particular blog are the opinions of the writer only. The views expressed in this blog are in NO WAY a reflection of the opinions of anyone else who writes articles on Soap Suds and Duds)

So, Bianca and Reese marry. They barely know each other, have a child together, Reese is in lust with Bianca’s brother-in-law, they’ve betrayed Bianca’s much-loved sister, and still, they marry…

They have the maturity level of two horny teenagers riding a hormonal wave of lust rather than two adult women making a loving and happy home for their children. You know, their newborn child and older daughter Miranda. Especially Miranda. Remember her? Bianca doesn’t. She’s become remarkably, incredibly selfish. They’re both self-centered, whiny brats, concerned about no one but themselves and their groundbreaking wedding. Not to mention that Bianca’s first born tends to be forgotten. A lot. Like, never mentioned when talking about their other child. As if she never existed…

Miranda’s been hanging out in the Martin attic, apparently…

And still they marry…

Is it just me or does anyone else find it incredibly ironic that the wedding takes place on Friday the 13th?

Anyway, following the wedding, things quickly fall apart for the happy couple. Or should I say things quickly fall apart for the moderately-okay-with-themselves-where-they-currently-are-in-their-lives couple. Ryan lets out a secret that sends Bianca into hiding at her mother’s with the kids in tow, then she just plain splits town on February 24th after apparently serving Reese with annulment papers, or after Reese gets annulment papers, or possibly before. Just know that Bianca heads back to Paris and Reese gets annulment papers but possibly not exactly in that order. Okay?

So, the first same-sex marriage in the history of daytime television quickly becomes the shortest same-sex marriage in the history of daytime television…

Well done, All My Children and Mr. Charles Pratt. Well done, indeed.

With Bianca’s departure comes the exit of Eden Riegel, the Daytime Emmy-award winning actor. Rumor has it she returns a couple months down the road to bring the storyline to a conclusion, with all parties saying that things work out well for Bianca and Reese.

Oh, rly?

If Bianca returns to Pine Valley and takes Reese back after Reese threatens to ruin the lives of both Kendall and Ryan, continues to sniff after Zach, conspires with Adam Chandler and basically makes herself a menace, then Bianca is the stupidest waste of oxygen on this big blue marble that’s hurtling through space.

But then again, this is the woman who forgave Babe for stealing her child for the better part of a year…

Wedding of the century, indeed…

Good thing it’s very early in the century, huh?

P.S. Thanks to my pals Phyl and Donna for their help and contributions to this therapeutic little piece…

Guess who’s coming to Pine Valley!

Quick update since I’m at work, but newsflash!

Eden Riegel (Bianca) will be returning to All My Children. Word is, she’s back on contract. And to add some intrigue, Bianca’s girlfriend from Paris will follow. Nope, it’s not Maggie, but someone new and goes by the name of Reese.

And who’s portraying Reese?  Tamara Braun (ex-Carly, GH).

No word on any story, but with Pratt at the helm, it should be interesting.

Stay tuned for more details!
